History

St. David’s Episcopal Church was established in 1952 as one of the earliest Eucharistic-centered parishes in the nation – something quite evident not only by the design of its worship space, but by the people who catered to form a new congregation on the west side of Topeka.

To be centered on the sacraments speaks of our shared life together, the presence of Christ in our relationships, and our vision for worship, outreach, and fellowship.

The Holy Spirit has been a guiding force at St. David’s since the start. In November 2006, St. David’s church building was destroyed in an arson fire. The congregation had the opportunity to move to a more suburban area of town, but chose to remain in the city, where it had loved God and neighbors for more than 50 years.

Physically, the result was a $5.2 million building project, providing a large parish hall, kitchen, contemporary nave, and classrooms.
Spiritually, the congregation was inspired by the Spirit to be even more engaged with the community.

Especially evident is the lay leadership that exists at St. David’s. Parishioners lead and participate in more than 50 ministries.

Today, St. David’s is filled with joy, love, and energy and is growing! The congregation is known for its inclusion, progressive views, and activity in the community. It is especially known for involving children of all ages in worship. The sense of love for God and each other is present in our worship, work outside our doors, and among the people here.
